It was funny at that time, I was thinking "What?! Faith?!". Oh the irony of hearing the unutterable word in an academic setting...

I remember a thing that happened during a university lecture that I attended. The lecturer was describing pathways involved in cellular respiration in eukaryotes. At one point she indicated that pathways other than the ones she is describing exist; After a pause she said that she is not going to say anything about them as she doesn't have the time but asked us--the students to believe in her. She used the word 'faith' saying, "please have faith in me". I was wondering at that time why some would utter the word 'faith' in a science class room. Obviously, she was asking the students to trust in her knowledge--to trust that she knows what she is talking about from their previous experience of her lectures. Faith here would reflect a biblical 'faith' view as I understand it in the form of informed "trust"...
